Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, the Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, has strongly criticised the police officer recently interdicted for filming and circulating a video of a private aircraft allegedly used by the President at Ho Airport.
The officer in question, Sergeant Samuel Agbemanyale, was interdicted by the Ghana Police Service after he recorded and shared footage of an aircraft on the tarmac. In the video, he identified the plane as a “rented private jet” used by the president during an official visit.
Madam Daniels described the officer’s behaviour as a grave act of misconduct, asserting that the administration’s decision to interdict him was the most appropriate course of action.
Addressing the matter, Madam Daniels expressed concern over what she described as an “alarming” level of indiscipline within certain ranks of the service. She emphasised the gravity of the officer’s breach of protocol:
”It is not every officer who is granted the privilege of serving on a presidential security detail. When you are given such an opportunity, you must not jeopardise it through recklessness. His actions were unprofessional and directly undermined the security of the President.”
Madam Daniels also lauded the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, for his commitment to maintaining high standards. She noted that while some officers may resist the IGP’s strict disciplinary measures, such oversight is necessary to sanitise the service.
”The time has come to speak the truth,” Daniels stated. “We have seen instances of misconduct since the new IGP was appointed because he refuses to tolerate indiscipline. This interdiction is a step in the right direction to ensure that professionalism is upheld within the Ghana Police Service.”
She further advised the Police Administration to sit up and enforce discipline.
