The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has imposed a curfew on Nalerigu Township and its environs in the North East Region.
He imposed the curfew acting on the advice of the National Security Council.
The curfew, enacted through an Executive Instrument, takes effect from Thursday, December 18, 2025, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily.
This was contained in a statement in which the Minister called on the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to address the challenges confronting the community, emphasizing the need to maintain peace.
The Minister also banned all persons in Nalerigu Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Individuals found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
Other measures taken by the Minister are
- A ban on the movement of motorbikes.
- A prohibition on wearing smocks.
- A ban on selling fuel in containers.
- A prohibition on unlawful assemblies.
