The Parliament has approved the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (Amendment) Bill, 2025, thereby amending the institution’s name to the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), Wa.
This amendment, confirmed on Friday, December 19, 2025, entails the removal of the late Prime Minister Simon Diedong Dombo’s name from the university’s title. Nonetheless, the institution will maintain its academic emphasis on business and integrated development studies.
Authorities have rationalized the renaming, stating it will fortify the university’s bond with pivotal stakeholders by enhancing public image and sparking interest.
This development is anticipated to yield increased student enrollment, augmented funding prospects, and substantial support from alumni and development partners.
Furthermore, the amendment seeks to globally position the university more competitively.
The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies is based in Wa in the Upper West Region and has, over the years, grown in stature as a key tertiary institution contributing to human capital development, particularly in northern Ghana.
