The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has advised newly graduated Blue Water Guards to assume a leadership role in protecting Ghana’s water bodies from pollution and illicit mining activities.
Speaking at the third batch’s passing-out ceremony of the Blue Water Guard Initiative at the Forward Operating Base in Ezinlibo, Jomoro District, Western Region, the Minister emphasised that their deployment is a national duty.
He described the graduates as vanguards responsible for safeguarding Ghana’s water resources for current and future generations.
The Minister explained that the Blue Water Guard Initiative aims to ‘turn our waters blue’ through community engagement and youth empowerment.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Frank Amoakohene, commended the President and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources for establishing the initiative, urging the graduates to conduct themselves with integrity, professionalism, and respect for the law.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Mr. Maxwell Y. A. Klu, congratulated the graduates, noting that the training had equipped them with the necessary skills to combat illegal mining and promote sustainable practices.
He reaffirmed the Minerals Commission’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
A total of 636 recruits successfully completed their training, bringing the total number of trained Blue Water Guards to approximately 1,700 across nearly seven regions.
