The Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), USA, has made an appeal for financial support and scholarships to aid Ghanaian graduate students in the US who are struggling to complete their education due to escalating costs, with some on the brink of discontinuing their studies.
During a courtesy visit to the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington, D.C., the association discussed the challenges faced by Ghanaian students pursuing graduate studies in the US with Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith.
GRASAG President Yao Kuwornu, speaking on behalf of the delegation, lamented an increasing number of Ghanaian students are finding it difficult to remain enrolled due to struggles with tuition fees, living expenses, and health insurance costs.
The association noted that without prompt intervention, some students are at risk of abandoning their academic investments, underscoring the necessity for structured support systems for Ghanaian students abroad.
“Several of our members are facing serious financial challenges that threaten their academic progress,” he said, appealing to the Embassy to help explore access to government-targeted scholarships, emergency support schemes, and other funding opportunities to enable affected students to complete their programmes.”
