Hon. Worlase Kpeli, the Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, has admitted that his constituency faces a significant infrastructure deficit.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lawmaker suggested that the consistent goodwill and support from local farmers in previous years had perhaps led to a lapse in prioritizing major infrastructure projects.
The MP highlighted that while farming is the backbone of the local economy, fishing is equally vital. However, both sectors are currently hampered by a transport crisis. With the Volta Lake being the primary route for travel, the community relies heavily on the pontoon for safety.
“The pontoon has been out of order for the past four months,” Mr. Kpeli lamented. This breakdown has forced residents and travelers to rely on small boats, which poses significant safety risks.
While the MP noted that he has made several unsuccessful attempts to have the issue resolved, he remains hopeful for a breakthrough during this festive season. In the interim, he confirmed that NADMO has provided life jackets for commuters using boats to ensure some level of safety.
Beyond water transport, the MP addressed the poor state of the roads.
He expressed optimism that the proposed bridge and its connecting roads are now part of the “Big Push” initiative. The MP noted that the Roads Minister has promised to hold the sod-cutting ceremony next year.
He remains confident that the people of Afram Plains North will experience real developmental progress by the start of 2026.
On the agricultural front, Mr. Kpeli announced that President John Dramani Mahama has directed the implementation of Agricultural Service Centres in the constituency.
Feasibility studies have already been completed, and construction is expected to begin soon.
Regarding education, the MP touched on the vast deficit in school infrastructure.
He explained that he has been collaborating with local communities through self-help initiatives to construct new educational facilities to bridge the gap.
