The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully rescued a truck driver alive from a mangled DAF truck (AS 1852-T) at the Sawla Weighing Bridge along the Sawla–Wa stretch.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, January 02, 2026.

A statement issued by the GNFS stated that the rescue was carried out by the Sawla–Tuna–Kalba District Command, with support from the Savannah Regional Headquarters Rescue Team, after which the driver was transported to the hospital by an ambulance.

It disclosed that the maize-laden truck carrying seven (7) male occupants from Wa to Bole veered off the road, crashed into a tree, and overturned into nearby bushland, sustaining severe front-end damage and trapping the driver.

The Service noted that six (6) occupants were earlier rescued by the public and taken to the Sawla District Hospital, while investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
