The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adansi South, Oheneba Kwabena Andoh, has revealed that a collaborative effort between the government and traditional authorities has resulted in securing a five-acre land parcel in New Edubiase for the development of a 24-hour economy market.
Speaking to the media in New Edubiase, he disclosed that the project is part of initiatives aimed at stimulating local economic activity and creating jobs, which will commence upon completion of documentation processes.
Furthermore, he stated that the Assembly has taken measures to repair the district’s sole fire tender, which has been out of commission for over a year, thereby addressing significant safety concerns.
“I resumed office when the only fire tender in the district was not working. I called the district fire officer to my office. He told me they will need a complete engine for the vehicle. I requested an invoice, and it was around GHS97,000,” he said.
“I have been able to mobilise some money, and we’ve sent the money to the guy who gave us the invoice, and the tender has been towed to Kumasi for repair,” he added.
He also disclosed that there are plans to invest in education infrastructure across the district, including the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Ayamakata, a six-unit classroom block at Keremebebi, and toilet facilities in selected basic schools.
According to him, the classroom blocks are being constructed with auxiliary facilities such as washrooms, playgrounds and mechanised boreholes.
Additionally, schools without electricity are being provided with hand-pump boreholes. Furniture, he added, will also be supplied to some schools to improve teaching and learning.
“I am constructing a kindergarten block at Subrinso with auxiliary facilities like a dining area, toilet and washrooms,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Assembly is constructing a 20-seater water closet toilet facility at the New Edubiase Senior High School.
He added that construction has begun on two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Nkrankese and Tonkoase Number Two to improve access to healthcare in remote communities.
“Looking at where they have to access healthcare, the distance was very, very far. We decided to site the CHPS compound in that community, and the contractor is working tirelessly to ensure the project moves fast. Maybe in two or three months he will hand over to us,” he said.
