The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has demanded the dismissal of the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DO II Desmond Ackah, following remarks he made regarding the assault on Class FM journalist Samuel Addo.
The journalist was assaulted by personnel from the Service during a fire outbreak at the Kasoa Market on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, called for the immediate dismissal of the officer.
He claimed the officer is not fit to remain in office as PRO for the Service.
“We call for the immediate dismissal or removal of the PRO of the GNFS from the position because our interactions with him on the case show that he is unfit to be in charge of communication for the Fire Service,” he said.
He additionally demanded an unqualified public apology from the GNFS to Mr Addo, the Class Media Group, and the media.
He said the service has caused the fraternity, particularly the journalist who was assaulted, humiliation, trauma, and professional obstruction.
The GJA has also advised media houses not to engage DO II Desmond Ackah if he is not dismissed.
