Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, has asserted that it would be inaccurate to claim the current administration has achieved nothing.
Speaking on the radio programme Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lawmaker provided a nuanced view of the country’s current state under the NDC government.
While Mr Acquah expressed reservations regarding the government’s approach to managing the country’s image, he highlighted the presence of relative political stability.
He noted that despite various internal challenges, the government remains in power without facing attempts to undermine its authority through forceful removal.
“We cannot claim that this government has not achieved anything,” he told host Kwabena Agyapong. “If for anything at all, we have witnessed a form of peace and stability. While we still face insecurity, compared to other nations, we are far better off.”
The MP was quick to transition into a critique of President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership.
He claimed that many Ghanaians now regret their vote, alleging that the NDC has failed to deliver on its mandate.
“We have regretted wasting our votes on the NDC because it has failed to deliver on its numerous promises to Ghanaians. They used propaganda to win power and are now finding it difficult to govern.”
Mr Acquah also addressed the disconnect between official economic reports and the daily lives of citizens. He lamented that the “so-called stability” of the economy and the cedi has not yet been “reflected in the pockets” of the average Ghanaian.
He described voters as increasingly “sophisticated”, suggesting that while citizens may currently appear unconcerned about misgovernance, they are observant and will “definitely deal with the government” at the appropriate time—likely at the polls.
