A group calling itself the Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Ghana (ADAM-GH) has filed a writ at the Supreme Court, seeking clarification on whether President John Dramani Mahama is eligible to run for a third term in office.
Executive Secretary Azubila Emmanuel Salam said the action is intended to address the growing controversy surrounding a possible third-term bid by the President.
He claimed that there are some individuals pushing the agenda to have the current president pursue a third-term agenda, including prophets who are even prophesying about this dangerous agenda.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 97.5FM, he disclosed that the court action is anchored in Article 66, Clauses 1 and 2 of the 1992 Constitution, which clearly outline presidential term limits in Ghana.
According to ADAM-GH, an authoritative interpretation by the Supreme Court will help clear misunderstandings and ease internal tensions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that there is no ambiguity regarding the constitution on the presidential term, but some selfish politicians seeking to retain their benefits are the ones pushing this agenda.
He said some people are intentionally misinterpreting the provisions, and the apex court should intervene to ensure sanity and discipline.
He asserted that the misinterpretations pose a threat to Ghana’s democratic stability, making it necessary to seek clarification from the Supreme Court. The court ought to step in and provide clarity on the matter. Our case was filed on December 23, 2025, and we want the Supreme Court to preside over the matter as quickly as possible.
