His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II paid a historic working visit to the National Police Headquarters on 6th January 2026, where he addressed the leadership and personnel of the Ghana Police Service on national security, professionalism, and the role of traditional authority in modern policing.
In his address at a special Guard of Honour Parade mounted for him at the National Police Headquarters, HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II described the visit as significant, noting that it had brought him into what he termed the engine room of national security. He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and all personnel of the Service for their sense of duty, commitment, and professionalism towards the maintenance of peace, security, and order, despite evolving security challenges. He stressed that the sacrifices of police officers, who remain on duty while citizens sleep and travel in safety, must never be taken for granted.
The Asantehene traced the origins of policing to traditional society, explaining that long before colonial administration, communities relied on customary authority, shared values, and moral discipline to maintain law and order. He emphasised that effective modern policing must be anchored in trust, cultural understanding, and strong collaboration between the Police Service and traditional authorities.
In his address, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, described the visit as historic and unprecedented, noting that it would remain permanently etched in the institutional memory of the Ghana Police Service. He highlighted the deep historical link between indigenous systems of governance and contemporary policing in Ghana.
Mr Yohuno commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his consistent support for the Police Service and his pivotal role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution across the country. He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with traditional authorities to enhance community trust, intelligence-led policing, and national security.
