A 26-year-old man identified as Barron Guda, also known as ‘Efutu’, has lost his life in a tragic incident.
The young man is believed to have fallen victim to a suspected arson attack in Assin Fosu, located in the Central Region.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the Thursday January 8, 2026 when a fire engulfed his wooden residence.
Following a distress call from residents around 7:00 a.m., firefighters and police responded, only to discover his body burnt beyond recognition.
According to ASP Rosemond Duncan, the Assin Fosu District Crime Officer, despite the efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service to douse the flames, the damage had already been extensive.
Residents, as reported by Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, suspect foul play, alleging that some mechanics in the area had previously threatened Efutu, accusing him of theft from their shops and vowing to burn him alive or evict him.
However, others attribute the fire to accidental incidents, dismissing arson as the cause. The situation escalated quickly, with some youth, believed to be friends of the deceased, confronting the police, demanding the arrest of the mentioned mechanics.
To prevent further escalation, the district police requested reinforcement from the Regional Command, Divisional Police, and the Formed Police Unit.
ASP Duncan confirmed that the body has been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital morgue in Assin Fosu, and investigations are currently underway to determine the actual cause of the fire.
