The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a 42-year-old commercial bus driver, Mohammed Gzali, and his mate, Mohammed Jabir, for allegedly transporting a substantial quantity of ammunition on a bus headed to Savelugu.
The suspects were arrested on January 6, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m. at the Kantanso-Asankare Police Barrier, while en route from Accra to Tamale and subsequently to Savelugu.

A routine inspection was conducted on a Kia Grand Bird bus with registration number AK 1309-21, following suspicions that it may be carrying prohibited items.
Upon a thorough search, a fertilizer sack containing 1,050 rounds of AAA and BB cartridge ammunition was discovered concealed among passengers’ luggage.

The driver claimed that an unidentified individual handed him the sack as a parcel at the bus terminal, destined for a person known only as ‘Oboye’ in Tamale.
The bus has been impounded, and the ammunition seized as exhibits. Both suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations to determine the source and intended recipient of the ammunition.
