Akufo-Addo presided over a ‘gang of thieves’ appointed to rob the nation – Listowel Kusi-Poku

Listowel Nana Kusi-Poku, a social critic, activist, and member of the Arise Ghana group, has leveled heavy accusations against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Kusi-Poku claims the former leader presided over unprecedented levels of “thievery, stealing, and corruption-related offenses,” alleging that the President looked on while appointees looted state resources for personal gain.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Kusi-Poku contrasted the former President’s humble campaign beginnings with his time in office.

He reminded listeners that while in opposition, Akufo-Addo solicited small donations from the public to fund his campaign but ended up leadingba gang of thieves to steal from us.

“We were in this country when Akufo-Addo and his group went around begging Ghanaians to support his campaign through the sale of GH₵1 scratch cards. However, after winning power, they turned around and stole from us,” he told host Kwabena Agyapong.

Kusi-Poku argued that the previous government’s mismanagement left the economy in a dire state and established a “terrible record” for the country. He used the platform to issue a stern warning to the current NDC government, urging them to avoid the corrupt pitfalls he believes defined the NPP’s tenure.

During the interview, the activist’s rhetoric intensified, leading to a tense exchange with the host.

Kusi-Poku asserted that he could not identify a single appointee under the Akufo-Addo government who was not involved in theft. “The Ministers of the former President were a gang of thieves. Mention the name of any appointee or Minister, and I will tell you what that person did,” he stated.

When host Kwabena Agyapong cautioned him against making such sweeping and unsubstantiated claims, Kusi-Poku remained defiant.

“Just mention the name of any appointee and I will let you know exactly what they did. We should be bold and call people out. We have a responsibility as Ghanaians to call out politicians who are thieves.”
