Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption.

She emphasised this during her address at the 93rd Jalsa Salana of the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, held on Wednesday, January 8, at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed that it is imperative for Ghanaians to condemn injustice and uphold what is right.

The event was held under the theme “Moral Decadence and Our Responsibilities in the Light of Islamic Teachings”.

She reflected on the moral responsibility that citizens and leaders have to do what is right, oppose injustice, and act with integrity.

According to her, the Quranic lessons remind us that ethical leadership and moral courage are vital for national strength.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency, including improved coordination among key anti-corruption agencies and the enforcement of a strong Code of Conduct for public officials.

She noted that the convention, which is held annually in the spirit of renewal, dialogue, and peace, reminds us of the values that unite us across faiths, cultures, and communities.

“A nation is strengthened by moral courage and ethical consistency. As citizens, we serve our country when we stand for what is right, speak against injustice, and uphold values in both public and private lives,” she said.

She assured that the government has taken measures to enhance the effectiveness and coordination of key institutions, including the Attorney-General’s office, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

“It is within this moral framework that the government must also act. Therefore, our administration has taken steps to strengthen the effectiveness and coordination of the Attorney-General, EOCO, OSP, and other institutions.

“Our commitment to justice and transparency remains steadfast. We have actively implemented and strengthened a code of conduct for all political appointees and public officials. And I urge all of us to abide by it for the good of our country, for the good of our citizens.”

She added that “those entrusted with public office must practise integrity, discipline and accountability and serve above personal interest”.

Beyond agriculture, she acknowledged the community’s significant investments in education, healthcare, and humanitarian service, including the important role played by the Lajna Imaillah, the women’s wing. These efforts exemplify service to humanity in action.

She outlined key areas of progress under the current administration, including economic stabilisation, education and health reforms, skills development for young people, and a renewed focus on infrastructure, good governance, and social fairness.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for placing their trust in His Excellency’s administration and giving us the opportunity to serve. In this new year, let us remain committed to faith, unity, and service to our dear nation.
