GTEC releases approved 2025/2026 university fee schedule with no fee hike

January 12, 2026
GTEC

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has announced the officially approved fees for the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year.

According to a statement released on January 12, 2026, and signed by Director General Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Academic Facility User Fee will remain unchanged from the 2024/2025 rate, thereby ensuring no increase for students.

Other applicable fees include a Student Representative Council (SRC) due of GH₵50, an SRC Development Levy of GH₵150, a Graduate Students (GRASAG) Development Levy of GH₵250, and a Telecel Broadband Levy of GH₵122, which applies to undergraduate students, including freshmen.

GTEC also introduced a 75th Anniversary Levy of GH₵100, which will only be charged for the 2025/2026 academic year and is not expected to continue beyond this period.

It admonished the school to properly educate the students about their rights, including the option to opt out of specific levies where applicable.

GTEC noted that the statement was a step to ensure transparency and compliance across the university.

“This announcement seeks to resolve issues surrounding the 2025/2026 fee schedule for the University of Ghana. We are counting on the usual cooperation of all stakeholders to implement it effectively,” the statement added.

It would be recalled that GTEC recently asked UG to reverse its season to increase the fees or face sanctions.

The Commission had stated that the action contravenes an earlier directive issued on November 3, 2025, which explicitly instructed all publicly funded tertiary institutions not to implement any fee increases for the 2025/2026 academic year without parliamentary approval, as required by law.

It further directed that all final-year students who had paid fees above the previous academic year’s rates are also to be refunded the difference, while all dues, including SRC and GRASSAG charges, must be reverted to last academic year’s rates.
