Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu states that the government categorically does not endorse any form of assault, heckling, or harassment towards journalists or any other professionals.
He said President John Dramani Mahama has also consistently reiterated his commitment to partnering with stakeholders to reorient personnel of the security agencies on how they should relate with journalists.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, he said the churlish attitude of some security personnel towards journalists is unlawful.
He announced that within the coming weeks the government would organise activities to engage with the heads of the security agencies to explain to them the need to see journalists as partners.He was responding to a question on the recent assault on a journalist with the Class Media Group.
The minister noted that even in situations where journalists are said He said journalists have the right to investigate or nose around and fish out information to keep the public informed.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu stressed that all individuals who work within the public space are subject to scrutiny and accountability, and the work of journalists does go a long way in enhancing that.
“Under no circumstance should you (journalists) come under attack or any form of harassment when doing that, even when you are deemed to have violated some protocol or some arrangement. The response to that shouldn’t be assault.”
He added journalists, like any other person, are subject to the laws of Ghana, and so if they commit any wrong, they should be taken through due process and not be assaulted.
He assured that those who assaulted the journalists will not be left off the hook, and their interdiction was the first step.
