A state of fear and panic has hit healthcare professionals at the Akoti Health Centre in Assin Wurakese, located within the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.
The situation unfolded when a group of armed individuals forcibly entered the facility and viciously assaulted a patient who was undergoing treatment.
The incident in question transpired subsequent to a violent confrontation between an individual identified as Yaw Buabeng and a couple.
During the altercation, both parties allegedly sustained cutlass-inflicted wounds.
One of the victims, Daniel, who suffered severe lacerations to his arm, was the first to seek urgent medical attention at the facility.
Shortly thereafter, Yaw Buabeng, who was bleeding profusely from injuries to his head and hand, also arrived at the centre seeking medical assistance.
However, as nursing staff commenced treatment, a group of approximately ten young men, armed with machetes, sticks, and clubs, stormed the premises and attacked Buabeng, beating him into a coma.
This horrific assault prompted the nursing staff to flee the scene in fear for their safety, abandoning the facility. Consequently, health officials are now calling for a comprehensive police investigation and the immediate apprehension of the perpetrators.
They caution that failure to bring the assailants to justice will compel them to request transfers due to significant security concerns at the facility.
The incident has been formally reported to the Assin Fosu District Police Command for investigative purposes.
