The National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned the Judicial Service and the Ministry of Finance to appear before it in response to a dispute with the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) regarding unpaid salary arrears. In a letter dated January 14, 2026, the NLC extended an invitation to JUSAG.
The invitation was signed by Dr. Bernice A. Welbeck, Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission.
According to the NLC, it received notice of JUSAG’s intended industrial action on January 13, 2026. JUSAG has announced plans to embark on a nationwide strike due to delays in paying eight months’ salary arrears from January to August 2025.
The NLC has requested the Judicial Secretary and the Ministry of Finance to provide an update on the outstanding claims within three working days of receiving the correspondence. Pursuant to Section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), the Commission has scheduled a hearing for all parties on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
The NLC advised JUSAG to suspend any planned industrial action and cooperate with the Commission’s intervention by attending the scheduled hearing, aimed at amicably resolving the dispute and preserving industrial harmony within the Judicial Service.
