The Eastern South Police Command has taken a man into custody for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for GH¢1 million.
The suspect, identified as Coffie Agyemang, a resident of Kwamang in the Denkyembour District, was apprehended following a targeted intelligence operation by the Akwatia Police.
The investigation began after community members reported that Agyemang had confided in a friend about his intentions to sell the child to alleviate financial hardships.
Acting on this tip, police officers initiated a sting operation, posing as prospective buyers.
During negotiations with the undercover officers, a price of GH¢1 million was reportedly agreed upon.
The suspect was subsequently arrested at a designated meeting point where he had arrived to hand over the child and finalize the transaction.
Beyond the attempted sale, authorities are investigating disturbing allegations regarding the intended fate of the child.
Some reports suggest the suspect intended for the child to be killed for ritual purposes.
It is alleged that the suspect planned to have the body returned to him after the ritual to stage a scene, creating the false impression that the child had been murdered by unknown individuals elsewhere.
DSP David Fianko Okyere, Public Relations Officer for the Eastern South Police Command, confirmed the incident to the media.
He stated that while these claims are being treated as part of the formal inquiry, the primary goal remains establishing the full circumstances of the case.
