The Minority in Parliament, led by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has raised a formal alarm over the alleged introduction of LGBTQI+ content into Ghana’s national educational curriculum.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Hon. Assafuah characterised the move as a direct assault on Ghana’s sovereign cultural identity and a clear attempt to undermine the nation’s long-standing traditions.
The lawmaker asserted that LGBTQI+ concepts are fundamentally incompatible with Ghanaian culture, accusing the government of pushing a foreign agenda and misleading the public to impose a specific ideology on the citizenry.
He argued that instead of introducing such divisive topics into the classroom, the government should dedicate its resources to addressing the nation’s most pressing challenges, specifically the revitalisation of the economy and the urgent need for job creation.
On behalf of the Minority, Hon. Assafuah issued a stern demand for the immediate withdrawal of all teaching and learning materials containing LGBTQI-related references.
He maintained that such content is entirely unacceptable within the context of Ghanaian society and runs contrary to the country’s core values. To ensure these changes are halted, the minority has vowed to take all necessary parliamentary and legal steps to block any attempts to promote this ideology within state institutions.
In a call to action, the minority urged religious bodies, traditional authorities, and civil society organisations to join the opposition and reject these curriculum changes.
