The Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old Community Police Assistant (CPA) named Bismark Yeboah in connection with the violent assault on a patient at the Assin Wurakese Health Centre in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.
The arrest is part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
According to the police, Bismark Yeboah was among a group of individuals who forcibly entered the health facility and attacked a patient who had sustained severe cutlass wounds, as evidenced by video footage captured during the incident.
The police further stated that the victim, identified as Kenneth Yaw Buabeng, has also been taken into custody to assist with the ongoing investigations following his discharge from the hospital.
The police described the victim who sustained
serious injuries, as the aggressor who allegedly initiated the altercation by attacking the family of one Daniel, during which Daniel also sustained severe cutlass wounds.
Meanwhile, a team of police officers led by the Assin Fosu Divisional Commander, ACP Dr Asare Nyarko, along with the District Commander, ASP Jacob Kumedzro, and the District Crime Officer, ASP Rosemond Duncan, visited health officials at the Akoti Health Clinic to assure them of their safety and welfare. Dr Asare Nyarko disclosed that police patrols in the area have been intensified to enable residents and health workers to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.
He also announced that the Regional Police Command is planning to engage with members of the Assin Wurakese community to educate them on the consequences of violence and lawlessness, cautioning the youth to desist from engaging in criminal activities and warning that such actions will attract severe consequences.
