Deputy Agriculture Minister, Hon. John Dumelo, has toured farms in Lower West Akim, accompanied by the area’s MP, Hon. Owen Kwame Frimpong. The visit aimed to assess agricultural activities, identify areas for support, and promote modern farming practices.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Dumelo assured farmers of the government’s commitment to boosting productivity and providing necessary interventions. “I came to see the progress of agriculture in Lower West Akim for myself, and I’m happy with what I’ve seen,” he said. “The government will do more to support farmers and improve farm productivity this year.”
Hon. Dumelo announced plans to establish agricultural processing centres in the constituency, which will provide a ready market for farmers’ produce and create employment opportunities for youths.

He praised farmers for their hard work and assured them of the NDC government’s support to alleviate poverty.
The Deputy Minister promised the establishment of a Farmers Service Centre in Lower West Akim this year, as well as the provision of farm inputs.
He encouraged youths to venture into farming, citing its profitability, and assured farmers that the government is ready to buy their inputs through the Buffer Stock programme.
Hon. Dumelo called on Ghanaians to trust the John Dramani Mahama-led government, emphasising its commitment to improving agriculture and supporting farmers.
Hon. Owen Kwame Frimpong, MP for Lower West Akim, on his part reaffirmed his commitment to promoting agricultural development in the constituency. He expressed confidence that the area will see significant improvements in farming, with farmers receiving the support they need.
“This is a farming community, and I’ll do my best to support our farmers through the government,” Hon. Frimpong said. He thanked Deputy Agriculture Minister, Hon. John Dumelo, for visiting the constituency and engaging with local farmers.

“This is a historic moment for Lower West Akim, as it’s the first time an agriculture minister has visited our constituency,” Hon. Frimpong noted. “We’re thrilled, and this marks the beginning of a new era in agricultural development here.”
The MP expressed optimism that his collaboration with the Deputy Minister will bring development to the area. He welcomed the assurance that the Buffer Stock programme will purchase all produce from farmers this year.
