A National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force member was shot during an operation against galamsey in the Bono Region on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
The incident took place along the Subinkurom-Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality.
This was confirmed by the Lands Ministry in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
According to the statement, NAIMOS reported that armed assailants, who were hiding in the bushes, opened fire upon spotting the team, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
One NAIMOS officer was hit in the thigh and was promptly taken to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital at Ampenkuro, where he is currently undergoing treatment and responding positively.
The statement also revealed that, one of the attackers, identified as Abuu Ibrahim, was shot and later pronounced dead on arrival at the same hospital.
