The pressure group Arise Ghana has launched a two-week protest at the United States Embassy in Accra.
The group is demanding the return of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to face investigation and prosecution for alleged financial mismanagement and corruption.
On Tuesday morning, January 20, 2026, group members gathered at the embassy clad in traditional red and black attire.
Protesters carried placards with messages such as “Bring Ken Home” and “No Hiding Place for Corruption.”
Speaking to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, leading member Mr. Selorm Dramani emphasized that the demonstration is a call for transparency. “As citizens, we demand that he is held accountable for the crimes he committed against the state,” Dramani stated.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently being tried in absentia by the Office of the Special Prosecutor. He faces over 70 charges related to transactions approved during his tenure, including revenue assurance contracts, public debt restructuring processes and payments made under sole-sourcing arrangements.
While his legal team maintains that he is willing to cooperate with lawful investigations, they cite health and security concerns as the reasons for his current stay abroad.
However, Arise Ghana dismisses these claims, with Mr. Dramani insisting that the former minister is actively evading justice.
The group has vowed to occupy the embassy area for the next fortnight. When questioned about the possibility of failed extradition efforts, Mr. Dramani remained firm on their immediate goal.
“We want Ken Ofori-Atta to return home to face justice and accountability,” he said. “If he doesn’t come after the initial two-week protest, we will continue our efforts to ensure he is returned to Ghana.”
