Transport unions will reintroduce identification tags for commercial vehicles to curb the activities of floating drivers who charge unapproved fares.
This was announced by the Transport Minister Joseph Nikpe Bukari after a meeting with the unions on January 19, 2026.
The unions are also expected to establish a task force to ensure strict compliance with approved fare structures.
He said the unions have agreed to do this to help the public easily identify vehicles belonging to the various transport unions.
“They’ve agreed that from henceforth they are going to reintroduce what they call identification tags, or stickers, on all vehicles. So if you see any vehicle, you will know that this vehicle belongs to this union.
“They’ve also agreed that they will put themselves in the same task force to ensure that drivers comply with the agreed fares that we, the Ministry of Transport, and they, the unions, agreed to in May last year,” he said.
