The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, expressed deep regret over the “unfortunate and avoidable” clash between local miners and the Ghana Police Service in the Amansie Central District.
The incident, which occurred in the town of Jacobu, has left one person dead and several others injured.
Dr Amoakohene extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those hospitalised during the unrest.
The minister urged citizens to maintain decorum and respect the authority of law enforcement, particularly in light of videos circulating on social media that appear to show civilians resisting police orders.
”Citizens should under no circumstances confront the police or engage in actions that threaten public safety,” the minister stated. “I strongly urge all citizens to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers and not disregard lawful orders.”
He also commended the Ghana Police Service for their commitment to maintaining public peace.

He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for security agencies in their duty to protect lives and property.
To address public concern, Dr Amoakohene assured the community that the incident would not be swept under the carpet.
The police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the use of force.
He assured that any individuals—whether civilians or officers—found to have acted outside the law will face the full rigours of the legal system.
