The minority in Parliament has maintained that it does not recognise Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie.The Caucus describe him as an intolerant head of the judiciary.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, January 26, 2026, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated that the position was handed to him on a silver platter.

He questioned the rationale behind the decision by the Chief Justice to be embarking on visitations at some ministries, wondering whether it is a thank-you tour he was embarking on.

He proceeded to state, “Is that my Lord Baffoe-Bonnie on a thank you tour thanking the government for appointing him as a Chief Justice? And we are here today; he is coming to Parliament.

“We the minority don’t see him as a tolerant head of the judiciary because members of the minority came under attack when we criticised the processes leading to his nomination. We will therefore not be part of his thank you tour. If he wants to engage us, our offices are open. He should come and engage us, and we will let him know things that we find wrong.”

Mr Afenyo-Markin stated categorically that they will continue to criticise the judiciary without any fear or favour.

He said if criticising the judiciary will send them to prison, they will prefer to be prisoners of conscience instead of being intimidated by the judiciary.

The leader went on in stating that the minority know the job was handed over to him on a silver platter, “But my Lord Baffoe-Bonnie, in the end, when history is being written, it would be your name. And to our judges at the Supreme Court, Ghanaians are watching how you determine the matters that are coming before you.”

He reminded him of the commitments he made during his vetting, adding that “the Mighty Minority is watching you.” We will not be silenced by threats of contempt. If by criticising the judiciary they will march us into Nsawam, we are ready to be prisoners of conscience.”
