A devastating fire swept through a cluster of mechanic shops at Sofoline in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Sunday night, causing extensive damage to property and livelihoods.
The fire is said to have started around 7:00 p.m. and destroyed more than 100 vehicles, numerous engines, and large quantities of upholstery materials, leaving shop owners and workers counting heavy losses.
The cause of the fire remains officially unknown, but some artisans are attributing it to someone burning refuse in the area.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has responded to the incident, calling for calm.

He advised traders and households in the region to take fire prevention seriously.
“As we move through this dry season, I also encourage everyone, especially traders, shop owners, and households, to take fire prevention seriously.
Please ensure electrical wiring and appliances are in good condition, avoid overloading sockets, switch off electrical gadgets when not in use, handle cooking and open flames with care, and keep flammable materials away from heat sources, and always report any fire outbreak immediately to the Ghana National Fire Service.”
