Effective Monday, February 2, 2026, Ghanaians will experience a revision in the costs associated with acquiring or updating their Ghana Cards, as announced by the National Identification Authority (NIA).
The NIA revealed in a statement that the revised fee structure for its services follows the enactment of new regulations by Parliament in late 2025.
This update is pursuant to the Fees and Charges (Amendment) Regulations, 2025, aimed at aligning public service costs with the prevailing economic conditions in the country.
According to the NIA, the existing fees have remained static for over two years, having been established based on the economic conditions of 2022.
The Authority noted that despite the relative stability in the exchange rate, certain non-reversible costs have necessitated a price adjustment, including high technology and software licensing costs, increased expenditure on cybersecurity to safeguard citizen data, and rising logistics, utilities, and personnel costs.
The NIA emphasised that the Ghana Card has become a critical national infrastructure, and these modest price adjustments are essential to ensure the long-term sustainability of the system.
The Authority has exempted first-time registration at any NIA District Office for individuals under the age of 25, ensuring that young citizens are not unduly burdened.
