Reports emerging from several polling stations in the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary suggest that three out of the five candidates are allegedly engaging in vote buying.
According to field reports, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and Bryan Acheampong have been accused of distributing cash to delegates.
Speaking to Rainbow Radio reporters, several delegates claimed to have received payments of GH₵500, GH₵500, and GH₵700 respectively from the three candidates.
Viral videos circulating on social media platforms appear to show delegates being required to submit their party membership cards in exchange for cash.
In addition to the bribery allegations, tensions have risen among supporters of Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
A number of delegates have openly complained that agents representing Dr. Adutwum have allegedly withheld funds that were intended for distribution.
Despite these controversies, the primary continues across the country under the following parameters:
A total of 211,849 delegates are expected to cast their ballots.
The party has strictly prohibited the use of proxy votes for this election.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is officially conducting the polls.
Voting is taking place at 277 centers across 276 constituencies, with the Party’s National Headquarters serving as a special voting center.
There are 5 candidates on the ballot for today’s primary. The official ballot order is:
