‘My working relationship with Dr Apaak is more than perfect’ – Haruna Iddrisu

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, says his working relationship with Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Apaak, is “more than perfect”.

This follows a video circulating on social media featuring commentary by broadcaster Kelvin Taylor, which suggested that there may be challenges in the working relationship between the two senior officials at the Ministry of Education.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Minister’s aide, Samson Samari, stated unequivocally that the claims do not reflect the reality within the Ministry and should be disregarded by the public.

“The Deputy Minister remains one of the most empowered and privileged deputies, frequently representing the Ministry at high-level functions and decision-making forums,” the statement said.

According to the Office, Dr Apaak has never, at any point, either privately or publicly, expressed dissatisfaction or grievance regarding his role or the delegation of duties within the Ministry of Education. It stressed that narratives suggesting otherwise are inaccurate and misleading.

The statement further clarified that the comments made in the circulating video do not represent the views, sentiments, or experiences of the Deputy Minister, adding that Dr Apaak has fully dissociated himself from the claims made by Kelvin Taylor.

However, speaking at the burial service of the late dad of his Deputy Minister, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, at GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga, the Education Minister lauded the work relationship between him and his deputy.

He described it as not just perfect but more than perfect. “And maybe I should say this because many don’t even know that my working relationship with Clement Apaak is not just perfect, it’s more than perfect,” the minister stated.

Haruna Iddrisu also highlighted that Dr Apaak has values of “self-respect, honour, and dignity for whom he is serving”, which he learnt from his late father.

He further revealed that his long-standing relationship with Dr Apaak started during their University of Ghana days, where Dr Apaak served as his campaign manager. He described him as his “proud deputy”.
