The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to party delegates for their unwavering support of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2026 presidential primaries.
In a statement, Shaib commended the delegates’ confidence in Bawumia’s leadership, describing the outcome as a reflection of the constituency’s collective confidence in the party’s direction. He praised the high level of comportment, orderliness, and unity demonstrated throughout the process, citing it as a testament to the constituency’s political maturity.
The MP acknowledged the invaluable contributions of key party stakeholders, including the Council of Elders, Constituency Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Past Executives, and Polling Station Executives, whose commitment ensured a smooth and credible process.
“This victory is the result of our collective effort and shared responsibility,” Shaib emphasised, urging the party to consolidate and refocus on the national elections. “Unity remains essential to our success,” he stressed, reaffirming the constituency’s readiness to work with Bawumia towards national success.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31.
The former vice president secured a decisive victory with 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent, positioning him to lead the party into the next general elections.
Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 per cent, while Dr Bryan Acheampong came third with 36,303 votes, representing 18.53 per cent.
They were followed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes, representing 1.02 per cent, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth place, polling 402 votes, representing 0.21 per cent.
The Weija-Gbawe Constituency congratulated Dr Bawumia on his victory and commended all former aspirants for their contribution to the party’s democratic processes, looking forward to working together in unity.
Shaib thanked delegates for their support, discipline, and commitment to the party, emphasising the importance of internal cohesion in achieving victory in the 2028 national elections.
