The Minority Caucus in Parliament has paid a formal visit to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the caucus reiterated its commitment to supporting Dr Bawumia.
Afenyo-Markin said that the caucus would be instrumental in carrying Dr Bawumia’s vision forward and advocating for it on the House floor.
This comes amid intense calls for Afenyo-Markin’s removal as Minority Leader due to his reported opposition to Dr Bawumia’s candidacy.
However, the Effutu Member of Parliament has vehemently denied allegations of harbouring animosity towards Dr Bawumia.
He stressed that his loyalty to the party and its flagbearer remains unwavering, and he will rally behind Dr Bawumia.
Afenyo-Markin assured that his dedication to the party’s cause and its leader is unshakeable.
“Our commitment as a caucus is to him. It is Parliament that is going to carry his vision and advocate for it on the House floor. As the leader of the caucus, my loyalty to the party’s cause and our flagbearer is unsoiled, and that is the discussion we’ve had. He (Bawumia), and that is why we are going to rally behind him and deliver in 2028.”
