As part of efforts aimed at juvenile rehabilitation, the Senior Correctional Centre (SCC) leadership recently made an official visit to Zonda Tec to forge a strategic alliance centred on updating vocational training programmes for detainees.
The visit, led by Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Yayra Ashong Mettle, aimed to bridge the gap between traditional correctional training and modern industry standards. This collaboration is a key component of the “Think Prisons 360°” initiative, designed to equip juveniles with market-ready skills in auto mechanics.
The “Think Prisons 360°” initiative represents a transformative shift for the Ghana Prisons Service. DDP Ashong Mettle emphasised that the agenda seeks to reposition the service as a world-class, development-orientated institution.

The Think Prisons 360° strategy focuses on reforming the service through improved welfare, modernised agriculture, industrial growth, financial sustainability, and strategic partnerships.
“To achieve our mandate of reformation and rehabilitation, it is vital that these young men leave our facility with viable, high-demand skills,” DDP Ashong Mettle stated during the meeting.
A primary goal of the partnership is the revitalisation of the SCC’s on-site mechanic shop. By collaborating with Zonda Tec—a leader in the automotive industry—the SCC hopes to upgrade its workshop to provide hands-on training using contemporary technology and machinery.

Accompanied by Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) James Akolbire and Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Alfred Nii Arday Ankrah, the SCC leadership issued a clarion call for Zonda Tec to help strengthen the vocational capacity of the facility.
Responding to the proposal, Mr Leon Leon, the Dzorwulu Branch Manager for Zonda Tec, expressed enthusiasm for the project. Speaking on behalf of the CEO, Madam Yang Yang, he reiterated the company’s dedication to empowering Ghanaian youth through technical education.

Mr Leon confirmed that Zonda Tec would move forward with internal management discussions to formalise the partnership, ensuring that the collaboration between the Ghana Prisons Service and the private sector yields tangible results for the juveniles.
