Ismail Abdul Razak, spokesperson for Hajia Amina Adam—a widow and aspirant in the NDC parliamentary primary for Ayawaso East—has dismissed allegations that the candidate engaged in vote-buying.
Speaking in an interview on ‘As it is in Ghana’ via Rainbow Radio (87.5FM Ghana and 92.4FM UK), Razak clarified that the candidate only provided delegates with transportation stipends.
He maintained that there is nothing unethical about a candidate facilitating travel for voters.
In his view, “vote-buying” involves the distribution of high-value assets, citing examples of other candidates who allegedly shared television sets, mobile phones, and motorbikes.
“I can assure you that people were given money for transportation and not vote-buying. But for those who shared TVs, laptops, Samsung phones, and other items—our candidate did not share such items,” he stated.
Earlier in the interview, Razak expressed confidence that opponent Baba Jamal would not win the contest. However, he maintained a diplomatic stance regarding the party’s unity, noting that should Jamal emerge as the winner, Hajia Amina Adam would accept the results.
Razak further revealed that the delegates themselves requested transportation assistance, rather than the candidate using money as a tool for enticement.
“We did not influence anybody with money. Out of the transportation given by all the candidates, the one given by Hajia was the least amount. The transportation was not to entice them, but it was an appreciation for coming to the voting centre to vote. The TVs, mobile phones, and laptops are the things that can be classified as enticement, and not transportation.”
