The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has initiated an inquiry into allegations of extensive bribery and voter persuasion during the party’s parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East constituency, which took place on February 7, 2026.
In a statement issued by the National Secretariat, the party denounced the reported occurrences, characterising them as a blatant infringement of the NDC’s fundamental principles and its ongoing ‘reset agenda’.
The statement follows reports that several candidates at the Ayawaso East polls purportedly engaged in ‘vote buying’ to sway the outcome of the primary.
Although the specific names of the accused individuals have not been disclosed, the party leadership confirmed that the National Executive was apprised of the incidents early in the day.
“The party vehemently condemns these actions in no uncertain terms,” stated Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC. “They represent an affront to the values and principles of the party.”
According to the release, a “full-scale investigation” is already underway.
The party noted that any candidate found guilty of using financial or material inducements to sway delegates will face immediate and “swift” disciplinary action.
”The party also wishes to make it clear that in the future, more drastic sanctions would be taken, including possibly cancelling elections, when such incidents come to the attention of the party,” Mr Kwetey added.
