The Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the annulment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The Caucus based its request on the widespread reports of unethical conduct and voter inducement.
A statement issued by Leader Mahama Ayariga
on Sunday, February 8, 2026, expressed grave concern over allegations of “vote buying” that characterised the internal election held just a day prior.
Aside from the annulment, the majority want the party to punish those found culpable.
According to the release, any candidate found to have engaged in such “unethical conduct” should be barred from contesting in any subsequent primary organised for the constituency.
”The Caucus wishes to strongly condemn these developments against the background of the agenda to reset the politics of this country,” the statement read, adding that the leadership remains committed to “restoring integrity” to the political process.
The primary, which was held to select a candidate for the upcoming March 3 by-election following the passing of the late MP Naser Toure Mahama, has been rocked by scandal.
The aspirants in the contest were accused of sharing 32-inch television sets and other inducements to delegates.
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, who emerged as the winner by a narrow margin over Hajia Amina Adam, admitted to sharing the TV but said it was a fight and not inducement.
The Majority Caucus has formally directed its resolutions to the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC.
Already, the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, had acknowledged the allegations on Saturday, and a three-member investigative committee—which ironically includes Mr Ayariga himself—has been tasked with probing the matter.
