The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has criticised former Minister Francis Asenso-Boakye for failing to complete the Suame Interchange project by December 2024, as promised by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

During a press conference on February 9, 2026, Agbodza stated that had the previous administration completed the project, the current controversy surrounding it would have been avoided.

The Minority, led by the former Minister, had accused the government of reducing the project’s scope from a four-tier interchange to a two-tier one.

In response, the current minister attributed the controversy to delays under the former administration rather than any shortcomings of the current government in delivering the project.

“Former President Akufo-Addo declared that by the end of 2024, the Suame Interchange project would have been completed and handed over.

“If Hon. If Asenso-Boakye had followed Akufo-Addo’s plan, we wouldn’t even be discussing whether it should be three-tier or four-tier now.

“This delay is due to his failure and the previous government’s failure to deliver. We are committed to completing the project for the good people of Kumasi,” he stated.
