Baba Ali Yussif, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, has stated that while the ongoing confusion within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding their candidacy may work in his favor, he does not intend to rely on their struggles to win.
Instead, Yussif noted that his strategy centers on a campaign message of sustainable development to earn the trust and votes of the constituents.
He claimed that the constituency has seen no significant impact or developmental projects since the NDC took control of the seat years ago.
Despite the NDC’s long-standing hold on the constituency, Yussif remains confident that history will not repeat itself in the upcoming election.
He emphasized his commitment to a message-driven campaign: “I have my strategy and message, and the issues confronting the NDC are not something I will capitalize on. I know it may play to my advantage; however, I will not capitalize on that. I will focus on my message and convincing the constituents why I am the best person to represent them in Parliament. We will reach out to all the constituents and tell them why they need to vote for us.”
The candidate lamented that it is currently difficult to point to a single major project initiated by the NDC in the area. According to Yussif, the people are looking for a representative who is ready to serve and provide tangible opportunities.
He stated that issues with sanitation and terrible roads are some of the challenges confronting them, while the constituents also want a senior high school in the area.”
He stressed that the NDC has taken the constituents for granted for years, and it is time for the people to experience real change.
Yussif dismissed any concerns regarding his opposition, including Baba Jamal, who won the NDC parliamentary primary on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
He was blunt in his assessment of his rival’s track record: “Baba Jamal is not a threat. He is a failure, and it was because of his failure that Ama Sey defeated him. If he is a real man as he claims, he should have stayed in Akwatia and contested, but he ran away because he had no courage.”
