The Police Intelligence Department of the Oti Region (PID/Oti) has successfully intercepted a vehicle, registration number GS-4677-17, a Kia Rhino, which was transporting a firearm and ammunition boxes from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.
The interception was carried out on February 8, 2026, through an intelligence-led operation.
Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, the police discovered one locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing 525 pieces of Lion AAA and BB ammunition, which were concealed amongst building materials.

The driver, Abubakari Salam Atta, 35 years old, and his mate, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, 19 years old, claimed ownership of the exhibits and were subsequently arrested.
According to a statement released by the Police, the suspects are currently in custody, assisting with investigations, and will be brought before the court in due course.

The Police assured the public of their commitment to removing illegal weapons from the country.
“The Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public that operations to remove illegal weapons from our communities will continue,” the statemen which was signed by Seputy Superintendent John Nchor, Public Affairs Unit said.
