The Constitution of Ghana Amendment Bill, 2025, has been presented to the Parliament for deliberation.
The proposed bill aims to amend the Constitution, eliminating restrictions that bar dual citizens and individuals owing allegiance to another country from occupying specific public offices in Ghana.
These offices include Ambassador or High Commissioner, Secretary to the Cabinet, Chief of Defence Staff or any Service Chief, and Inspector-General of Police.
Following its first reading, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor referred the bill to the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for further review and report.
The committee is tasked with examining the proposed amendments and submitting its findings to the House prior to further parliamentary proceedings.
