Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has ruled that there is insufficient legal grounds to proceed with petitions aimed at removing the leadership of the Electoral Commission and the Special Prosecutor.
According to a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, the Chief Justice found no prima facie case in the ten petitions submitted against the officials.
The petitions were referred to the Chief Justice by President John Dramani Mahama on November 25, 2025, in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act.
These included seven petitions concerning the Electoral Commission Chairperson and her deputies, as well as three petitions targeting the Special Prosecutor.
In a letter dated January 26, 2026, the Chief Justice stated that the evidence provided did not merit further investigation, effectively concluding the current attempt to remove these senior officials from office.
“The Chief Justice informed His Excellency the President that no prima facie case has been established by the petitions to warrant any further investigations,” stated Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President.
