The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has officially summoned Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, in response to the dissemination of explicit videos featuring Ghanaian women and a man purportedly identified as a Russian national.
The meeting, convened on February 17, aimed to lodge a formal protest against the egregious conduct, which the Ghanaian government deems a blatant infringement of national laws pertaining to privacy and cybercrime.
A statement issued by the Ministry stated that Ambassador Berdnikov conveyed regret over the violation of the victims’ dignity while informing Ghanaian officials that the individual at the center of the controversy may not be of Russian origin.
The Ministry revealed that the Ambassador pointed out that, the name linked to the suspect in the media does not correspond to a recognized Russian name.
He explained that the moniker in question bears a vulgar connotation in the Russian language, suggesting it may be a pseudonym employed to deceive the public or authorities.
Furthermore, Ambassador Berdnikov revealed that the same individual has been implicated in similar incidents in other countries, with Russian experts already investigating these cases to determine the man’s true identity and origin.
Despite the absence of a formal extradition treaty between Ghana and Russia, Ambassador Berdnikov assured Ghanaian officials of his embassy’s full cooperation, committing to share intelligence to facilitate the apprehension and prosecution of the suspect.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured the public that it is utilizing diplomatic channels with Russia to ensure the perpetrator, regardless of nationality, is held accountable for the leaked videos.
