The Ministry of Education has issued a nationwide warning to students, condemning the physical assault of teachers and staff.
This directive follows a troubling surge in reported attacks within several senior high schools across the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, February 19, 2026, signed by Deputy Education Minister Dr Clement Apaak, the Ministry emphasised that any individual—including students—found guilty of assaulting educators will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
“The Ministry notes with grave concern incidents involving assaults on teachers and related acts of violence in schools across the country,” the statement said. “We take strong exception to these developments and are determined to nip them in the bud. Perpetrators will face severe consequences under Ghanaian law.”
The Ministry referenced several recent cases to underscore its “zero-tolerance” approach.
It mentioned the Kade Senior High Technical School: following an assault on staff, all involved parties were arrested and arraigned before the Kade District Court. The suspects pleaded guilty to conspiracy and assault, resulting in immediate convictions and fines.
West Africa Senior High School: Two students and an accomplice were recently arraigned before the Adenta Circuit Court for assaulting a teacher. They have been remanded in police custody for six weeks pending further legal proceedings.
Super Zonal Sports Competition (Eastern Region): The Ministry also condemned extreme misconduct during this event, which included reports of stabbing and alleged sexual assault. The perpetrators are currently in police custody, while the victims are receiving medical and psychosocial support.
According to the Ministry, schools must remain safe environments for both teaching and learning.
