CID Boss Gives SWESBUS Headmaster 24 Hours to Produce Students After Viral Assault
The Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, has ordered the headmaster of Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) to produce students seen in a viral video violently assaulting a peer.
The victim, a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School, is currently on admission in critical condition. The assault reportedly took place during the District Schools Athletics Games, an event originally organised to promote youth talent and sportsmanship.
DCOP Donkor issued the directive during a direct visit to the school. She noted that her approach was intended to be collaborative rather than confrontational, stating that she chose not to “storm the school” with her officers, provided the headmaster cooperated in identifying the suspects.
The primary objectives of her visit included engaging management to assess the circumstances of the brawl, reinforcing discipline within the student body, and ensuring that immediate steps are taken to prevent any future recurrences of such violence.
In a formal statement following the visit, the CID boss reaffirmed that the police would restore order and strengthen accountability. She assured the public that violence within educational institutions would not be tolerated and that all participants in the attack would face legal consequences.
“As the CID investigates this incident, all persons found to have participated in this act are being identified and dealt with in accordance with the law. Our students must feel safe in school and at every sanctioned event. Discipline, responsibility, and respect for life must remain non-negotiable,” she said.
