The Ministry of Education has initiated an inquiry into a disturbing series of videos circulating on social media, showcasing violent altercations between students in the Central Region.
In a strongly-worded statement issued on Monday morning, Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, vehemently condemned the actions, signaling a zero-tolerance stance towards indiscipline within the nation’s educational institutions.
The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has been instructed to convene a task force to address the crisis.
An emergency closed-door meeting is currently underway at the GES Headquarters in Accra, attended by the Central Regional Director of GES, District Directors overseeing the affected areas, and Headteachers of the two schools involved.
Although the names of the specific institutions have not been formally disclosed pending the investigation, officials confirmed that the schools are situated within the Central Region.
The Ministry’s stance implies that the students involved will face more than just a routine suspension.
Dr. Apaak stressed that both he and the Minister for Education view the situation with utmost gravity.
“The culprits and perpetrators can expect the most severe sanctions,” the Deputy Minister warned, noting that the Ministry is awaiting a full report from the Director General before finalising disciplinary actions.

The Ministry of Education condenms, in the strongest terms, the acts of violence captured in the viral videos attached. Initial information indicates that the students captured in the videos are from two schools in the Central Region.
The Director General of GES has since been directed to investigate the matter. Accordingly, he will meet with the Central Regional Director of GES, the district directors of GES in whose jurisdiction the schools are located, and the heads of the said schools, this morning at 10 am [23rd February 2026] at the GES headquarters in Accra.
Even as we await the report from the Director General of the GES, let me state that the Minister for Education and I take a very serious view of these acts of violence. Consequently, the culprits and perpetrators can expect the most severe sanctions.
