The Ghana National Fire Service has launched the Automated Fire Safety Compliance System (AFCAS), a digital platform aimed at transforming fire safety compliance in Ghana.
AFCAS is aimed at replacing slow, paper-based processes with a streamlined digital system accessible to the public.
It will serve as the main platform for public interaction with the service, enabling faster and more transparent compliance checks for homes, shops, factories, offices, and public buildings.
Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, who launched the initiative, underscored the importance of fire safety, stating that it is a national necessity that underpins the safety of citizens, protection of lives and properties and investor confidence.
He noted that AFCAS represents a bold transition from manual, fragmented processes to a digital, standardised, and technology-driven fire safety compliance regime.
He added that the system is expected to enable the Ghana National Fire Service to engage the public, streamline inspections, reduce turnaround times, and improve service delivery across homes, businesses, and public institutions.
He indicated that AFCAS also aligns with the government’s policy of leveraging technology to make doing business easier and guarantee the security of investments in Ghana.
The Hon. Minister commended the leadership and personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service for their vision and commitment to bringing the initiative to fruition.
He called on property owners, regulatory bodies, and the public to fully embrace and support the implementation of AFCAS, emphasising that fire safety is a shared responsibility.
In her welcome address, the Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, noted that the system will go a long way in improving Fire Service services, revenue generation, and interaction with clients.
She stated that before AFCAS, things were done manually, which had its own challenges, saying the benefits will be far-reaching. She commended the Minister for the Interior for his support and assured him of rolling out the system across the country.
The launch, held in Accra, brought together stakeholders from the Ghana National Fire Service, government agencies, and the private sector.
