The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) National Headquarters dispatched rescue teams to respond to a fatal multi-vehicle accident on the N1 highway near the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra on February 23, 2026.

According to the Service’s statement, the distress call was received at 19:58 hours, and the team arrived at the scene at 20:14 hours.
The collision involved a Kia motor truck with registration number GG 1304-18, a Sprinter bus with registration number GX 8325-13, and a Volvo trailer with registration number GT 7856-20.

Rescue personnel rescued victims from the wreckage and provided immediate emergency care.
A total of 21 casualties were recorded, resulting in 2 fatalities at the scene, while 19 others were transported to Achimota Hospital and the 37th Military Hospital for medical attention.

The Service reported that the cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
The GNFS extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.

“Working alongside other emergency responders, the GNFS secured and managed the scene, prevented secondary incidents, and cleared the roadway to restore traffic flow. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Service extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery, while urging all motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and prioritise road safety,” the statement concluded.
